The Washington Capitals took down the Ottawa Senators in overtime as Caps fans got their first taste of the new overtime style. A style that favored the Capitals style of play. Michael Neuvirth proved his is apart of the future of the franchise. Hard work was the theme of the night since nothing else seemed to fit as a sloppy early season game ensued.
Credit must be given to both goalies who stood on the heads in front of two teams that looked discombobulated during much of the game. Pascal LeClaire was a tough tender to beat. It took the grit of Brooks Laich and newly signed Matt Hendricks to pay off for Alex Semin and Eric Fehr's goals.
Sloppy is as Sloppy does, the Sens would have an answer for the Caps tallies as Jarkko Ruutu waved his magic wand and snuck a deflection by midway through the second period for the Senators. Ryan Shannon took advantage the Caps inability to get through the neutral zone, used John Carlson as a screen and busted one by Neuvi to tie it up in the third, sending the game into extra time.
Alex Ovechkin squeeked one by LeClaire in the waning seconds of OT to give the Capitsls 2 points on the night.
