Tsunami Surfers Hit the Water in California, Hawaii

Surfers in California shrugged off tsunami warnings and headed out into the large surf Friday morning around the time massive waves trigged by an earthquake in Japan were hitting the West Coast.

The tides began to rise after 7:30 a.m. Friday with the biggest surge of waves hitting the coast around 8 a.m.

As predicted, some areas saw surges of more than 7 feet.

Officials continue to caution surfers and beach goers to avoid low-lying beach areas to seek higher ground this morning.
