So, why is Southeastern Conference expansion so desirable? If the goal is to increase the number of eyes to watch SEC football and basketball on TV and bodies in stadiums and coliseums, won’t southern population increases, by themselves, take care of increasing numbers of eyes and bodies?
Here’s the rub, while the South overall has dramatically increased in population since 1950, population growth has been far from across the board. In fact, most SEC states have actually lost ground population-wise since 1950.
