Slugger Pat Burrell will retire after a 12-year major league career that included nine seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, the team that drafted him first overall in the 1998 MLB draft.

Burrell slugged 292 home runs, drove in 976 runs, and batted .253 during his career. He averaged 90 walks during his eight full seasons in Philadelphia and finished 14th in the MVP voting in 2002 and seventh in 2005.
