If the Oakland Athletics sign Manny Ramirez, the free agent outfielder who must serve a 50 game suspension upon returning to Major League Baseball, would it really be because they feel he could improve their team, or simply as a publicity stunt? It appears that the answer is quite obvious.
While the Athletics say that they are not actively pursuing Ramirez right now, they have publicly stated that they are at least open to the idea. David Forst, Oakland’s assistant general manager, told fans that ”We do have other things going on and we do expect other additions between now and Opening Day. We have never been in a situation where we had too many good players.”
That leads me to think that he must be talking about players other than Ramirez, because can anyone truly still classify Ramirez as a good player?
