Varej-ow! (part dois)

Varej-ow! (part dois)

For the second time in as many seasons, Anderson Varejao suffered a major injury causing him to put a dent into the hopes and dreams of his owner’s fantasy glory. This time the culprit is a fractured wrist, which upon information and belief, was suffered on the court. Early reports suggest he’ll be out a minimum of 4-6 weeks but we’re all still in the dark about the exact length of time. I hate being in the dark about stuff but go ahead and hold him until we know more in the next day or three. In the meantime, your newest huckleberry is Tristan Thompson. In 20 games off the bench for the 5 Non-Lebrons, Tristan averaged 18 mpg/.424 FG/.426 FT/6.8 ppg/5.4 rpg/.2 apg/1.2 bpg. On Friday, TT dropped 5/13/0 with 3 blocks and a steal in 28 minutes. Then on Saturday, he followed it up with 2/8/1 and 2 more blocks on 0-6 FG in 19 minutes. In case your math is as dubious as mine, that’s 21 boards and 5 blocks this weekend. Clearly, Tristan has some short comings, in particular his percentages, but I’m willing to overlook that right now and say you grab him in standard 12 team leagues and beyond. At 6’9, he won’t replace Anderson alone but he’s got nice upside and who couldn’t use 8 or 9 boards and 1.5-2 blocks per? The arrow is pointing up so go, go, go if he’s still out there in your sleepy league. Blocks like that on the wire aren’t that easy to come by, you know. In deeper leagues, keep one eye on Samardo Samuels and your other eye on Semih Erden. Your eyes will probably look all weird but you gots to do what you gots to do. If you wanted to grab one of them now, I’d roll with Sam Sam but I’m all so blah about the whole thing. Anyway, here’s what else I saw in fantasy basketball this weekend:
