The Dallas Cowboys are hosting journeyman quarterback Kyle Orton on Tuesday in an effort to sign him as Tony Romo’s backup. Orton likely would like to be the starter for an NFL team, but his options are very limited as teams like the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins appear to have their issues solved at the position.
The Cowboys placed a waiver claim on Orton when he was released by the Denver Broncos last season, so the interest there is genuine. Orton would fill the hole left when Jon Kitna retired following the 2011 season and Dallas not ready to promote Stephen McGee to No. 2 on the depth chart.
