Will the Pittsburgh Steelers be without RB Rashard Mendenhall for the entire 2012 season? Or is it even more likely that he might have played his last game for the Pittsburgh Steelers entirely? Rehabbing from an ACL injury, sources tell Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Ed Bouchette that the Steelers front office are not counting on Mendenhall to be healthy until the 2013 season, and his rookie contract expires at the conclusion of this season.

This puts the running back position for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a precarious position. Issac Redman will likely start the 2012 season entrenched as the Steelers starter, being backed up with Jonathan Dwyer. Also on the roster are John Clay and Barron Batch. Batch himself is recovering from an ACL injury. That is a lot of youth and inexperience.
