Lions working to get long-term deal done with DE Cliff Avril

Hyped by on March 27, 2012 Website:

The Detroit Lions placed the franchise tag on DE Cliff Avril before the league imposed deadline to do so on March 5, a move which has not made the pass rusher all too happy. Now, the Detroit Lions are hoping to be able to reach a long-term deal with Cliff Avril and avoid what appears to be a holdout by the pass rushing specialist.

The Lions have until July 15 to hammer out a deal with Avril and if they are unable to reach agreement, Avril will be forced to play under his franchise tag offer of slightly less than $11 million dollars. There is also the very real possibility that Avril will not sign his tender offer and holdout.Reports suggest that Avril will not sign his offer prior to the start of the Lions off-season program which begins on April 16.
