In the movie Major League, Ricky Vaughn (played by none other than Charlie Sheen), came out to the song Wild Thing by The Troggs. That was partly due to his personality, but also because Ricky had a little trouble throwing strikes. in Major League Baseball, Mitch Williams took that role, and adopted the same song for similar reasons.
After last night’s poor performance by New York Yankees starting pitcher Freddy Garcia, we may have found the latest version of wild thing.
Not only could Garcia not get out of the fifth inning in a game which eventually saw the Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles in 12 innings, but the Bronx Bombres’ No. 5 starter entering the 2012 MLB season threw five wild pitches. That feat has not been accomplished since Ken Howell did it for the Philadelphia Phillies back in 1989.
