In 2007, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies seemingly created their own rivalry out of nothing. Carlos Beltran declared the Mets to be the team to beat in the NL East, Jimmy Rollins said it was the Phillies who were the team to beat, and then the teams battled to the end with the Phillies sweeping a late August series and then overcoming a seven-game deficit with 17 games to play to win the division.
