Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels has been suspended for five games for admitting that he intentionally hit Washington Nationals' rookie Bryce Harper in the first inning of Sunday's game.

Hamels has also been fined.

The Nationals retaliated to Hamels hitting Harper. In Hamels' first trip to the plate, in the third inning, he was hit by Nationals starter Jordan Zimmerman.
