Mets: Valdespin Hits Clutch First Major League Home-Run in Mets Win

In the first of a three game series against the Phillies, the Mets had to face arguably the best pitcher in baseball, Roy Halladay. With Niese struggling in only fine innings of work, it looked as though the Mets had no shot to win the first game of the series. However, the Mets rallied back to score two runs with a David Wright double down the line, and the game remained tied in the 9th inning. Jordany Valdespin, called up after shortstop Ruben Tejada went down injured, came in to pinch hit with two outs in the 9th inning. Little did anyone know what would happen next. Valdespin smacked a home-run to deep right-center field to give the Mets a 5-2 lead. The score remained 5-2, and the Mets upped their record to 16-13 on the year.
