In the first game of the Subway Series, it was a pitching match-up of two similar lefties, Andy Pettitte, of the Yankees, and Jon Niese of the Mets.
Pettitte has been around for quite some time, since making his major league debut on April 29th, 1995. He was and is a very respectable pitcher for the Yankees, totaling 206 wins in 14 seasons with the Yankees.
Niese, on the other hand, was looking for an extension, and was finally able to settle on a five-year deal worth $25 million with the Mets.
After the deal, Niese's agent Tom O'Connell said these words when asked about his client's future.
"The Mets are hoping that Jonathon Niese can become their Andy Pettitte," Tom O'Connell, told the Post.
