NFL issues magazine refunds, but you can’t cash their checks

Hyped by on June 26, 2012 Website: www.thepigskinreport.com

In the first week of June, the NFL started sending out refunds for subscribers to the NFL Magazine which folded shortly after the Super Bowl. This venture was one of the very few failed ventures of the league. I received my refund check and stuck my $29.90 check for my two-year subscription in my wallet, basically forgetting about it for the time being.

I was out and about yesterday checking on storm damage from Tropical Storm Debby and happened to pass by a Chase bank. Needing a few extra bucks in my wallet and not wanting to pay ATM fees, I whipped into Chase in order to cash the $29.90 check. It was a no go. After nearly 20 minutes at the teller window, where I witnessed three tellers hovering over my large check, I was finally informed that my check was “non-cashable”. I’ve never heard of such a thing. I’ve cashed certified checks, checks over $10,000 dollars, but I’ve never heard of a “non-cashable” check.
