Just as soon as you thought that this historic shutout streak could continue, it ended before you could say "shutout". Zack Cozart drilled a Matt Cain fastball into the left field bleachers on the very first pitch of the game, ending the streak. However, Cain had much more to worry about than a lost streak because the Reds came out swinging.
Cain walked Drew Stubbs, setting the table for the big boys. Joey Votto nailed a double that seemed to carry over Melky Cabrera's head, putting runners on second and third with no outs.
Cain was able to get Brandon Phillips to pop to shortstop Brandon Crawford, but the powerful Jay Bruce picked him up by driving in Cozart and Votto with a one out double.
