On December 5th, Jose Reyes had agreed to a six-year, $106 million deal. It was a sad day in New York, to say the least. The 2011 batting champion had walked away from the Mets, and went to the Miami Marlins, a rival of the Mets.
There were mixed reactions from fans. Some fans said that they were happy with what Reyes gave the Mets during his tenure, and that it's fine that he relocated himself in "South Beach". Others weren't only furious that Reyes left the Mets, they were angry that he went to a rival.
In the end, the Marlins had given the best offer for Reyes; an offer that general manager Sandy Alderson couldn't match at that time due to the Wilpon's financial issues.
