In 25 days I will be driving to Atlanta, GA for the Chick-fil-A kickoff game between the NC State Wolfpack and the Tennessee Volunteers (8/31 7:30pm ESPNU). The Georgia Dome will be rocking with the sounds of the Red and White Song and Rocky Top. The game traditionally pits the ACC vs. the SEC, and this year is no different with a double-header in store to open the college football season (Clemson vs. Auburn, Saturday, September 1 @ 7pm ESPN).
Once again Florida State is favored by the ACC media to win the ACC. Seems like a broken record, but the Seminoles haven’t cracked the ACC code since Bobby Bowden was in his hay day back in 2005. It’s hard to believe FSU hasn’t won an ACC title in seven years, but the slippage at the tail end of the Bowden era and the growing pains of new leadership in Jimbo Fisher created a dry spell for this once dominate program.
The SEC media selected LSU as its preseason favorite to win the conference. That would make 5 conference titles in 12 years. The always entertaining Les Miles has things going full throttle on the bayou and LSU appears to be the most talented team in the SEC if not the entire country.
Let’s take a look at some potential surprises, coaches on the hotseat, and some conference predictions in the ACC and SEC for the 2012 season.
