NHL to Lock Out Players if Agreement is Not Reached by September 15

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters today that "the owners will not play another year under the current agreement."

That current agreement will end on September 15, and if a deal between the players union and the owners is not reached by then, the NHL will lock out its players.

The last time the NHL locked out its players was eight years ago, when the entire 2004-2005 season was canceled.
