The 49ers are lucky that it's still the preseason, because they have a lot more work to do after falling 20-9 to the Texans on Saturday night.

David Akers accounted for all nine points on three field goals, as the Niners failed to get into the endzone.

All four quarterbacks on the roster played, with Alex Smith going two drives and completing 5 of 9 passing for 49 yards. Josh Johnson certainly impressed, as he went 4 for 6 for 64 yards, including a beautifully thrown pass to AJ Jekins on a 32-yard play.

But Texans' starter Matt Shaub was the story, going 11 for 14 for 128 yards including a touchdown pass to Keshawn Martin.

Injuries

It was a bad night for 49ers running backs, namely free agent signing Brandon Jacobs and draft pick LaMichael James.

Jacobs exited in the first quarter with a knee injury, and James suffered a lower left leg injury in the fourth.

The extent of these injuries were not immediately known.
