Joker Phillips knew what was coming. He practically said there was no reason to keep him as the head coach of Kentucky's football program following a 40-0 loss at home to Vanderbilt. On Sunday Kentucky made the decision to relieve Phillips of his duties, and some would suggest they put an end to his misery in doing so. Kentucky will begin a search for a new head coach immediately.
Phillips failed to get through his third season on the job with Kentucky, ending his 2012 season with a woeful 1-8 record, and a 12-22 overall record since being introduced as the head coach at Kentucky prior to the 2010 season. Kentucky has gone downward since handing the program to Phillips, winning six games in 2010 and ending the year with losing record after losing the BBVA Compass Bowl, slipping to five wins and missing a bowl game last season and eliminated from postseason eligibility weeks ago this year.
