Penn State must slow down Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez early

Penn State must slow down Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez early

If Burkhead is unable to go, that will not mean Penn State's defense will be getting any less of a battle on the ground against Nebraska. The Huskers are still rushing the football 59 percent of the time and are running the football more often than any team in the Big Ten other than Ohio State. Quarterback Taylor Martinez is coming off Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors due to his legs, running for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

For Penn State, slowing down Martinez must be the focus of the defense. Forcing Martinez to beat them through the air may not be quite the recipe for a win as it once was for teams facing Nebraska though. The junior quarterback has passed for 1,941 yards, just 149 yards from setting a career high. Martinez has also passed for a career high 18 touchdowns this season, and inside the red zone Martinez has been mostly locked in with ten touchdown passes and just one interception.
