The US Soccer team and Russia are facing each other in the battle of the titans in Krasnodar. While the two rivals are engaged in this friendly competition, the US should not underestimate Russia.
Russia has become a country to be reckoned with after Fabio Capello was selected to be their manager. It appears that Russia learned its lesson from Euro 2012 when it was eliminated early in the competition.
Russia easily defeated Israel, Northern Ireland, Azebaijian, and Cote D Ivoire in their friendlies. Russia punished Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo in their 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Alexander Kerzhakov scored the winning goal in the match between the two countries.
The US defeated Guatemala, Mexico, Antigua and Barbuda, and Jamaica in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers. The Stars and Stripes suffered one loss to Jamaica in their home country.
The victory of the USA over Mexico in Azteca Stadium on August 2012 was great but not adequate. The Stars and Stripes did not play their best in Mexico given the mistakes in defense and midfield.
There was also a lack of coordination in the US Soccer team during the match at Azteca Stadium.
For the US to defeat Russia in their home court, they must strengthen the defense and midfield. They should also turn off any negative sounds or racially charged insults that may come from Krasnodar.
Goal wrote about a possible 5-2-3 formation for the USA compared to 4-3-3 for Russia. America would be better served with a 4-3-3 formation in this and future matches.
It is not expected to be an easy match with both teams scoring goals amidst a theatrical background.
