Everyone is trying to make something out of nothing when it comes to Zack Grainke, who is the elite free agent starting pitcher on this year’s market. Will he stay with the Los Angeles Angels? Will he remain in the American League West and sign with the Texas Rangers? Could he stay out west but switch to the National League and join the World Series champions, the San Francisco Giants?
We do not know which team Greinke will join. What we do know is that he could very well sign this week, as the GM meetings get underway. We also know he is seeking a deal for roughly six or seven years worth around $140-$150 million. With a weak class overall, especially among starting pitchers, Greinke is likely to get close to what he is seeking.
It just won’t be coming from the Boston Red Sox.
