In a key divisional matchup featuring the reigning Superbowl MVP and the sensational high profiled rookie, it would be Robert Griffin III to come out on top and steal the show on Monday Night Football as the Washington Redskins (6-6) outlasted the New York Giants (7-5) 17-16 in front of a sold out FedEx Field in the nation’s capital. The sensational rookie got his revenge the second time around against Eli Manning and the defending champions as he threw 1 TD on 13-21 passing for 163 yards. Additionally he added 72 rushing yards on 5 carries while Alfred Morris finished with 22 carries for 124 yards as the dynamic 1-2 punch for the Redskins kept the Giants defense on their heels and caused all kinds of havoc running the pistol formation.
The Giants were led by Eli Manning as he put up a nice stat line completing 20 of 33 passes for 280 yards and 1 TD. Ahmad Bradshaw added 103 yards on the ground on 24 carries while Victor Cruz, who caught the game winning touchdown pass at MetLife Stadium in the first meeting, finished with five catches for 104 yards. Despite the Giants ability to move the ball at will almost all night, it resulted in only one touchdown and three field goals by Lawrence Tynes as the team’s red zone deficiencies continued to show for this offense. Tynes would also hook a field goal try wide left early in the game which would ultimately cost the Giants three huge points and the game.
