As the Toronto Blue Jays continue their makeover from cellar dweller to top tier contender, the next target appears to be R.A. Dickey, who is the reigning National League Cy Young winner the New York Mets are expected to trade. After failing to come close enough to being able to reach an agreement on a two year contract extension, the Mets may be forced to trade Dickey, with the Blue Jays coming in as the new front runners.
New York has talked with multiple teams regarding a possible deal involving Dickey, but have not been offered a package attractive enough to pull the trigger. The Texas Rangers were reportedly involved in serious talks, but those appear stalled. The Los Angeles Angels would love to trade an outfielder for Dickey, but would prefer to deal Peter Bourjos and not Mike Trout, so that will not be enough to satisfy the Mets’ demands.
