The New York Mets are not going to compete for the playoffs in the 2013 MLB season. They know that. But that is not stopping them from looking into signing some former marquee names who are either coming off of major injuries and surgeries or down seasons or both. That is why the Mets are looking into the possibility of signing Grady Sizemore or Francisco Liriano, or perhaps even both.
The Mets have a logical reasoning behind these possibilities. They know that even if they add Sizemore and Liriano, they are probably still just the third or fourth best team in the National League East. They will finish well ahead of the Miami Marlins – who should be contracted – but will struggle to place before the Philadelphia Phillies.
