Jets: History, Pete Carroll, Mark Sanchez, and Pizza

Jets: History, Pete Carroll, Mark Sanchez, and Pizza

What I learned about sports as a kid always fuels my present day expectations. I grew up in the 80′s, so I always believe the Giants will be competitive, that the Yankees will be melodramatic and overpaid, the Knicks will always be on the verge of greatness, the Nets won’t, and the Mets will be a model baseball organization. Look at that. They all still hold true (with the glaring exception of the last one). So, that’s why I’m always surprised when New Yorkers think the Jets will be good.

As I write this, they’re down by thirteen to the Chargers. The hopes of Jets fans rest upon the right arm of third string quarterback Greg McElroy. It’s fourth and eight with 11:18 left on the clock, which could be the tagline for the season. Any talk about a championship comes from the ghosts of Super Bowl III. Joe Namath is resting comfortably in his armchair knowing that he will remain the franchise’s golden boy for another season.

I’ve seen this before.
