With 12 games in the books, the St. John’s Red Storm are enjoying a long break before they begin Big-East Conference play on January 2nd at Villanova. The Johnnies went 8-4 in their non-conference schedule and although they started off the season in an impressive manner, they’ve slipped as of late.
After opening the season with a close win at home vs Detroit, the Red Storm headed down to South Carolina for the Charleston Classic. Steve Lavin’s club handled the host team, College of Charleston, with relative ease in a double-digit win. The tournament turned sour for Lavin & Company as St. John’s failed to pull out a close one against Isaiah Canaan and a bracket-buster team in Murray State. The last game of the tournament St. John’s fell to No. 16 Baylor, the best team they have played to date, 97-78.
