Last season, San Francisco 49ers K David Akers was one of the best kickers in the NFL. This season, Akers is struggling, converting just 29 of 44 field goal attempts in 2012. San Francisco decided to bring in some kicking competition as they prepare to head into the post-season. The Niners agreed to a deal with veteran kicker, Billy Cundiff.
Cundiff has had struggles of his own this season. He was unable to unseat rookie Justin Tucker in training camp this year with the Baltimore Ravens and was ultimately released. Shortly after his release, he was signed by the Washington Redskins. Cundiff began the season as the Redskins kicker but was ultimately released after missing five of 12 field goal attempts. Cundiff missed three field goal on September 30 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and missed one more the following week, leading to his release on October 9.
