Three Spartans depart for NFL Draft

As teams are concluding their seasons, wrapping up bowl games, this is the time of the year that juniors decide whether they will return to college for their senior season or opt for the 2013 NFL Draft. Three members of the 2012 Michigan State Spartans have opted to enter the NFL lottery in April. RB Le’Veon Bell, DE Will Gholston and TE Dion Sims.

The decision for Bell to enter the draft is a no-brainer. He is a powerful back that lacks truly elite speed. Bell was a workhorse for the Spartans in 2012, carrying the ball 382 times. He rushed for 1,793 yards while scoring 12 touchdowns. He has shown the ability to carry the ball a lot, only twice in 13 games did Bell record fewer than 20 carries, and finished the season with 30 or more carries in his last four games. There is no reason for Bell to return to the Spartans and possibly suffer an injury given his workload. Several draft sites have Bell rated as the fourth best rusher in this year’s class.
