48 hours ago, it appeared that the Cleveland Browns had landed their man, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly. Those 48 hours can be critical in the head coach search process, just ask the Arizona Cardinals. Shortly after Black Monday, a report surfaced that the Cardinals were “95% assured” of signing Andy Reid as the team’s next head coach. Reid eventually inked a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs instead.
Over the weekend, not only did the Browns miss out on Chip Kelly, but after two interviews with Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone, he decided to sign a contract with the Buffalo Bills. The Browns also spoke with Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien, but he opted to remain at Penn State. So it now appears that the Browns are back to square one.
