The New Orleans Saints announced on Wednesday that head coach Sean Payton has received a five-year contract extension. The Saints had given Payton a contract extension last season, but the NFL league office voided the deal, making Payton a free agent head coach. Payton has been serving a season long suspension, a penalty handed down regarding his role in the Saints Bountygate scandal.

Saints owner Tom Benson said the following during the announcement.
