The drama involving Real Madrid and embattled manager Jose Mourinho does not appear to end. Mark Ogden of The Telegraph wrote that Florentino Perez Real Madrid President may fire Mourinho as Los Merengues Manager.
The report predicted that this will happen if Manchester United defeats Real Madrid in the Round of 16 UEFA Champions League. The supposed caretaker replacement at Santiago Bernabeu would be Aitor Karanka.
If this is the ending as predicted by The Telegraph, the causes are the following:
Mourinho started the road to his own downfall by sacking Iker Casillas. Mourinho benched Casillas during the Malaga vs. Real Madrid match on December 2012.
The decision was met with anger among the Galacticos faithful who support Casillas. The result was a victory for Malaga.
The victory for Malaga further emboldened those who want Mourinho out as manager. Last December, Marca the Spanish magazine conducted a survey among Real Madrid supporters.
The result was 81% in favor of a new manager in Real Madrid. Sergio Ramos was another purported victim of Mourinho.
Sergio Ramos was benched by Mourinho last September after the latter was criticized for Real Madrid´s defeat to Sevilla.
Marca is the Spanish magazine which deals with everything related to sports. Marca recently published articles that attacked Mourinho as Real Madrid started to lose matches.
Recently, Marca published a report in which Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos threatened to leave Real Madrid if Mourinho stays. The supposed ultimatum was made during a lunch with Real Madrid staff.
Florentino Perez Real Madrid President had to call a press conference to deny the reports by Marca. Ramos and Casillas denied making any ultimatum to Perez or Real Madrid concerning Mourinho.
While Marca does a great job in reporting, it appears that there is more to what happened during the Real Madrid luncheon. It should be remembered that sensational headlines attracts plenty of readers.
Real Madrid might have saved itself with a well-deserved victory over Getafe, yet challenges remain. Manchester United has David De Gea, Robin Van Persie, Chicharito Hernandez, and Wayne Rooney in its ranks.
Real Madrid does not have Iker Casillas as the goalkeeper due to a hand lesion. The predictions are the following
UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg at Old Trafford
Manchester United 6-5 Real Madrid
Javier Hernandez will score five of the six goals with an assist from Robin Van Persie.
UEFA Champions League Round of 16 Second Leg at Santiago Bernabeu
Real Madrid 4-5 Manchester United
Robin Van Persie will score four of the five goals for Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo will score all goals for Real Madrid.
The results will not be enough to save Mourinho from losing his job as manager at the end of the season.
