The New Orleans Saints have hired Rob Ryan as the team’s new defensive coordinator. Ryan, dismissed by the Dallas Cowboys last month, will now oversee the Saints defense as the team converts from a 4-3 alignment to a 3-4 scheme. Ryan had been thought earlier this month to be the next defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams, but at the last moment, the two sides appeared to have differences and Ryan eventually was not hired.
Ryan is a very adroit coordinator in the 3-4 system, but the biggest question mark surrounding the Saints now is what personnel changes will the team have to make. New Orleans finished the 2012 season with the league’s worst ranked defense, so there is no where to go but up for Ryan and the Saints in 2013.
