California businessman Jamie Cuadra purchased the rights the the defunct USFL with plans of resurrecting the failed venture. Plans were announced last year around this time that the league could have teams up and running this year in order to fill a void football fans feel at this time of the year while also creating a developmental league for the NFL to draw from. Those plans seemed a bit ambitious at the time and the start date for the league was moved back to the Spring of 2014.
