Last season, Dwight Freeney decided he wanted to stay with the Indianapolis Colts, a team coming off a dreadful 2011 campaign. Freeney re-upped for a one-year contract and was rewarded with a trip to the playoffs this season. However, the Indianapolis Colts have decided that they are moving on without Freeney and will allow the seven-time Pro Bowler to hit the free agent market next month.
Freeney’s production on the filed has tailed off in recent years and he struggled under the new defensive alignment of the Colts last season, registering just five sacks. Despite the drop off in production in recent years, he best fits a 4-3 alignment and although he turns 33 next week, he will draw plenty of interest on the free agent market as a situational edge pass rusher.
