PGA Tour: Remembering When Golfers Played With Class And Dignity Instead Of Crass And Idiocracy

The following is an article by soon-to-be-91-year-old Clara Morano, who has watched the sport of golf for more years than many of our readers have been alive. The views and opinions expressed are solely hers. Please enjoy this special guest piece.

“I have been watching the game of golf since 1945. I remember the golfers as a great group of players. They had class and respect for their mates and even praised each other. People like Tom Watson, Gentle Ben, Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and others brought dignity to this great game. They laughed with each other. If they missed a putt, they smiled and picked up the ball. If they made a birdie, they did not punch their arm in the air and dance, as if someone is supposed to pin a medal on them.
