Fernando Torres Chelsea Striker appears to be heading to Italy. Tony Banks of Express reported that Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is willing to deal with his former club.
This will involve an exchange in which Torres signs with Napoli and Edinson Cavani [the latter team’s striker] moves to Stamford Bridge. While the differences are minors regarding price, it is a win situation for the two strikers.
Torres was signed by Chelsea from Liverpool during the 2011 Winter Transfer Window with high expectations. Unfortunately, Torres did not live up to them secondary to his ability to score few or no goals.
He was an object of ridicule by many in Stamford Bridge including the spectators and press. While it was right to criticize Torres for his play, there is no reason in subjecting him to ridicule.
I had the honor of seeing Torres perform during the Spain vs. Haiti match in Miami, Florida. The majority of the crowd did not show mercy towards him.
The insults were plenty within the bleachers and it was terrible. What about Torres’ future with the Blue Nation?
Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Stamford Bridge may not help Torres in his career. The latter may end up benched or marginalized in the new order to be created by Mourinho.
The Express has reported that Chelsea is willing to sell Torres in return for Cavani. This reinforces the fact that Torres is expendable at Stamford Bridge.
A change of venue and a familiar face may help Torres recover his form in scoring. Italy and Napoli would give the respect and appreciation that Torres deserves.
It would be great to see Torres working with Benitez for a third time in their career. It has been said that the third time may be lucky.
Mourinho expressed his desire to sign Cavani for his new Chelsea team. Napoli is already resigning itself to losing Cavani and is trying to sign other players as replacement.
Cavani according to ESPN scored 29 goals within 34 matches for Napoli during the 2012/13 Serie A season. He managed 156 shots and four assists during these matches for the Italian team.
Cavani scores almost easily and exerts a strong presence within the field. It is these qualities that Chelsea needs in order to rebuild and win the next Premier League or UEFA Champions League.
Manchester City is expressing an interest in the striker as well which leaves little time for Chelsea. Chelsea has to offer Napoli the best deal to sign Cavani as soon as possible.
It remains to be seen whether this change will happen or not. What can be said that opportunity knocks once and this one of these times.
