Jefferson Montero Ecuador and Morelia midfielder appears to be close to a deal which with West Ham United. According to Jamie Jackson of The Guardian, the English club may pay £3m or $4.59m of Montero’s release clause to sign him.

Montero is expected to receive $30t or $45.9t a week for his services to West Ham. What can be said about Montero, the advantages, and disadvantages for him in England?

Jefferson Montero

According to ESPN, Montero has been with Morelia, Real Betis, and Villarreal B. He represented Ecuador in its 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

During the 2013/14 season, Montero managed to score three goals within 18 matches started. He managed to substitute for three of these matches for Morelia and Ecuador.

Montero currently has 44 shots with 21 of them on goal in the current season. He has 18 fouls committed and 33 of them served.

The Premier League [EPL] team is impressed with Montero’s recent performance in Ecuador’s CONMEBOL World Cup Classification against Argentina. During the match, Montero managed to defend himself in spite of being tripped by Argentina.

The result was an aggressive play by Montero and placing Argentina on the defensive which lead to a draw. At the present time, there appears to be similarities between Montero and Hernandez.

Remember that Hernandez impressed Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Ferguson signed Hernandez from Chivas of Guadalajara and welcomed him to Manchester United.

Montero with West Ham United may have the opportunity to compete in the EPL. His talent could be appreciated for a wider audience in Europe which would be close to impossible in Mexico.

West Ham United does not appear to be one of the best clubs in the Premier League. It was in tenth place during the 2012/13 EPL season with 46 points including 12 wins, 10 draws, 16 losses, 45 goals scored for, 53 scored against in 38 matches played.

The goal differential within the last season was minus eight. The current EPL for West Ham United starts in last place within the relegation zone.

This does not appear to be a place for Montero to realize his potential. It should be remembered that similar to Hernandez, people will accept Montero and then become tired of him.

The same applied to Fernando Torres when he moved from Liverpool to Chelsea. When people lose patience for any reason, the players are marginalized or sacked.

It remains to be seen what may transpire with this transaction and the season for Montero and West Ham.
