NFL Draft 2014: Will Detroit Lions Trade Up To Draft Sammy Watkins?

When it comes to the 2014 NFL Draft, all 32 teams are doing their due diligence on a number of prospects, regardless of whether or not they are expecting that they will still be on the board when they are on the clock. Players fall, trades happen, surprises occur. That is why every team must have multiple back-up plans and contingencies based on various scenarios. That is why you will see teams with late first-round selections bringing in players who are expected to go within the first half of the draft on Day 1. It may mean that the team is simply scouting the player, or that there is a genuine interest and that they are seriously considering making a move up in the draft in order to select the player whom they covet most. Of course, until it happens, we never know what actually goes on in draft war rooms throughout the NFL. One thing, however, appears certain, and that is the level of interest the Detroit Lions have in drafting Clemson Tigers wide receiver Sammy Watkins in the 2014 NFL Draft. The problem with that logic is that the Lions currently hold the No. 10 pick in the first round, and Watkins is expected to go between No. 2 and No. 9. That is why if the Lions truly wish to pair Watkins with Calvin Johnson to form perhaps the best 1-2 WR punch in the league for years to come, they will have to move up in order to make it happen.
