MLB Rumors: Could Boston Red Sox Sign Hanley Ramirez, Max Scherzer, Nelson Cruz Or James Shields This Offseason?

The Boston Red Sox have done accomplished something rather historical over the past few seasons, going from worst to first to worst from 2012-2014. In 2012, on their way to a last place finish in the American League East, the Red Sox shred a ton of salary by dealing a trio of All-Stars to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the upcoming offseason, Boston spent wisely and assembled a World Series championship ballclub. This year, the Red Sox are once again on their way to a last place finish, having dealt traded away Jon Lester, Jake Peavy and others. Now, with team chairman Tom Werner planning on opening up the wallet once again after the 2014 MLB season, should Red Sox fans expect the team to climb right back into the pennant and championship chase in 2015?

  • I feel as if Jacoby Ellsbury was a big part of that championship team. What he brings to the table with his speed, defense, and bat are very hard to find elsewhere and that showed this year. Think about 2012 when they finished last. He was out a large part of the year and the team struggled. The same thing happened this year. No Ellsbury in the lineup and the team finishes last. The goal for the Red Sox should be to find a replacement for Ellsbury, re-sign Lester, and maybe add a guy like Scherzer. Yes, I think you can expect them to contend for a playoff spot, but not a championship.
