Long before I ever got into writing, like so many kids I had the crazy notion that I was going to play Major League Baseball.
I really go into the sport at age nine. My dad, who was a die-hard Mets fan at the time, wanted me to have a role model to watch and learn the game from. That role model was none other than Derek Jeter.
The guy was as close to perfect as one can get. He hustled on every play. He was an exemplary teammate. He treated the game and those around him with nothing but the utmost respect. He was a winner.
