March is almost here, which means it’s time for the madness to begin! The NCAA men’s basketball tournament tips off with the First Four in Dayton on March 14-15, 2017. Now what we’re a couple weeks away, here are my Top 5 favorites to win, with odds courtesy Skybook’s futures. At Skybook you can find March Madness Predictions all winter long, but here are my picks as of Feb. 26:
- Kansas, +800
At 26-3, Kansas is tops in the RPI, which is one of the tools the NCAA selection committee uses heavily to evaluate teams. That also means Kansas, which won at Kentucky and is an impressive 4-0 against Top 25 teams, could get the easiest road to the Final Four if they’re slotted with the overall No. 1 selection.
- Villanova, +800
At 27-3, ‘Nova looks strong heading into the final stretch and is battle tested, going 7-2 against the Top 25.
- North Carolina, +600
The Tar Heels are 24-5, winning 10 of their past 12 a la Kansas and Villanova. The difference being Top-25 games, where they’re 4-2. They’re still somewhat unproven against the best of the best, but they’re 10-3 against the rest of the Top 100 this season.
- Louisville, +1,000
Louisville is 22-6, but has the second-toughest schedule in the country, according to the RPI. That said, Louisville is 3-6 against the Top 25, which doesn’t bode well for their Final Four hopes unless they get seeded close to home.
- Florida, +1,200
The Gators are my dark horse under a young head coach, but going 23-6 against the 10th toughest schedule earns them respect. They are 1-4, however, against the Top 25 and still have plenty to prove outside the SEC.
