Three Teams That Can Take on Alabama

Hyped by on September 28, 2017

To say Alabama is head and shoulders above the rest of the SEC, is an understatement.

In fact, Alabama is head and shoulders above the rest of the country looking at the updated college football odds

Sorry defending champion Clemson, and postseason hopefuls Oklahoma and Penn State. But you’ve got some work to do before you’re going to make Alabama (a 59-0 winner over Vanderbilt in Week 4) look beatable.

And in the SEC, after Florida had nine players suspended for their part in a now felony fraud case, we’re not sure any SEC team has a chance against Alabama.

That said, here are three teams that can take on Alabama later this year if they pull a few things together down the stretch.

No. 2 Clemson

That said, Clemson is the defending champion, albeit with a new quarterback. Even then, Clemson rolled Boston College after a slow start 34-7 and will try to move to 5-0 against Virginia Tech this weekend. Rookie quarterback Kelly Bryant will have to turn things around in a hurry to remain unbeaten after throwing two interceptions without a touchdown.

No. 3 Oklahoma

Oklahoma is also 4-0, holding off Baylor 49-41 last week, but getting a Week 5 bye before having to play again. The Sooners will spend the bye week working on their defense, struggling against a winless Baylor team that saw QB Zach Smith rack up 463 passing yards. The good news: the Sooners still have QB Baker Mayfield, who could be the best quarterback in Division I.

No. 4 Penn State

Penn State was impressive early, but narrowly got past unranked Iowa 21-19. Penn State plays Indiana in Week 5. Good thing for the Nittany Lions they have running back Saquon Barkley, coming off a school record 358 all-purpose yards in the last outing.

No. 5 USC

The Trojans appear back to their old ways of dominating conference foes, rolling past Cal 30-20. They host Washington State on Friday.

No. 7 Georgia

Then No. 11 Georgia put together a suffocating defensive performance against No. 17 Mississippi State last weekend, rolling to a 31-2 victory behind freshman quarterback Jake Fromm.  And that’s the same Mississippi State team that just beat then No. 12 LSU by 30.
