Steelers Had Deal in Place with Redskins to Draft Center Mike Pouncey at No. 16? May 15, 2011 by Dan Parzych (Edit) Filed under AFC, AFC North, Latest News, NFC, NFC East, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins Leave a Comment After the type of season Maurkice Pouncey had as a rookie in 2010, the Pittsburgh Steelers knew it would be worth the risk to snag Florida center Mike Pouncey–Maurkice’s brother–in the 2011 NFL Draft if given the opportunity. While the draft took place over two weeks ago, a recent report from over the weekend indicates how the Steelers had a deal in place to try drafting Pouncey at No. 16–until he was taken by the Miami Dolphins with the 15th pick. Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider indicated on Saturday how Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder recently did an interview on Sirius Radio and discussed how there was a deal in place between the Redskins and Steelers on draft day–but the deal fell through since the player Pittsburgh wanted was gone at No. 16. The Dolphins used the 15th pick to select Pouncey to fill their need on the offensive line and since the deal fell through right after–all signs indicate the Steelers were hoping to land Pouncey by trading picks with the Redskins. From Wexell’s Twitter account: Dan Snyder said on Sirius Radio this week that the Redskins and Steelers had a draft day deal in place, but “the player was gone” at pick 16. Originally, the Redskins held the No. 10 pick, but swapped first-round picks with the Jacksonville Jaguars–who traded up to acquire Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert–at the last second on draft day. Considering the type of success Maurkice had as a rookie, Pittsburgh would have loved the Pouncey brothers playing on the field together in 2011. Unfortunately, the Steelers were just one pick away from making this dream come true. | More Tags: Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins Related Posts Share your Rant Agree? Disagree? TweetAccording to a recent report, a trade fell through on draft day between the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers at the last second. Apparently, the player Pittsburgh wanted was unavailable at No. 16--with all signs pointing to Mike Pouncey.
